The UTS Law Insearch Myanmar Australia Scholarship

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Law Insearch Myanmar Australia Scholarship supports Burmese law students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their career and personal development. The scholarship recipients will play an important role deepening the connections between the legal academic and professional communities in Myanmar and Australia.

The UTS Law Insearch Myanmar Australia Scholarship is made possible thanks to the generous support of Dr Mitchell Landrigan, a visiting professor at UTS Law, and UTS Insearch, the premium pathway provider to UTS.

Applications for The UTS Law Insearch Myanmar Australia Scholarship open on 4th of June and applications close on the 31st of July.

What this scholarship will give you

A two-week study tour in Sydney, Australia

You will observe classes at the Faculty of Law at UTS, interact with students and academics, and visit government institutions and workplaces. You will develop your skills and gain a broader understanding of Australian history, culture and how law is taught and learned in a foreign country. UTS is located in downtown Sydney, Australia and is only a short trip by public transport to sites such as the Opera House, the New South Wales Supreme Court and the State Parliament.

200 teaching hours OF ACADEMIC ENGLISH

The scholarship will give you 200 hours of Level 5 Academic English at AEC.

A PAID INTERNSHIP OF 3 MONTHS at baker mckenzie law firm

A paid internship of 3 months in the Yangon office of Baker Mckenzie with an allowance of $100 USD per month.

Are you eligible to apply?

This scholarship is offered to disadvantaged high-performing law students. The criteria is as follows:

  1. Applicants must be completing their Law degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) at the end of 2018.
  2. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5/5 for the first 4 years of their law degree.
  3. Applicants must have English suitable to enter into advanced English classes to support their internship and travel to Sydney in 2018. Following being selected as a finalist, AEC will contact the student to sit a placement test to assess their level of English.
  4. Applicants must be able to demonstrate they are from a disadvantaged background or face social/economic hardship. This could mean the student is from a low-income family and/or from a remote area.
